NORTH EAST STATES

Northeast India is a unique and culturally vibrant region of the country, comprising eight states commonly known as the "Seven Sisters"—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura—and the "Brother" state, Sikkim. This region is often described as the gateway to Southeast Asia, sharing international borders with countries like China, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Nepal, which gives it immense strategic and economic importance.

Geography & Nature Northeast India is blessed with breathtaking natural beauty, from the snow-capped Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim to the lush tea gardens of Assam, the rolling hills of Nagaland and Manipur, and the spectacular waterfalls in Meghalaya. The region is home to dense forests, rare wildlife species like the one-horned rhinoceros in Kaziranga National Park, and rich biodiversity, making it an ecological hotspot.
Culture & People The region is known for its ethnic diversity, housing over 200 distinct tribes and sub-tribes, each with its own language, traditions, and festivals. Festivals like Bihu (Assam), Hornbill Festival (Nagaland), Wangala (Meghalaya), and Chapchar Kut (Mizoram) reflect the vibrant cultural heritage.
Languages & Religion The region has a rich linguistic diversity with Assamese, Manipuri, Khasi, Mizo, Nagamese, and Nepali widely spoken, alongside hundreds of tribal dialects.
Economy & Development Agriculture, handloom weaving, tea cultivation (especially in Assam), and bamboo-based industries form the backbone of the economy. In recent years, eco-tourism and adventure tourism have gained popularity due to the region’s pristine landscapes.
